many dead drives on first test

My first impression of this drive is *not* encouraging (for writing data to discs)! I use Verbatim BD-R discs and use three different programs to process the writing to the disc; CyberLink (included), Ashampoo Burning Studio (free) and BurnAware free. I had 3 dead hard disks out of 6 attempts. My system is Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I tried to find a firmware update for the drive but couldn't find it on the company's website. I tried calling tech support but they hung up without reaching the person.

Cons

Does what it should.

Plays DVD and CD normally (haven't tried Blu-ray yet). It is compact and easy to carry, fits perfectly in my laptop bag. The cable that came with it was too long for the small table so I replaced it with a 6 inch cable that I bought here. great quality, was huge, too big to fit in my laptop bag (and it's a big bag!) Although I can't use the bag with my laptop bag, I found it handy for storing extra cords in the drawer the case was free (other sellers have sold the same optical drive without a…

  • Absolutely Amazing!

I've never been a fan of Cyberlink and thought this product that came with a product key might change my mind, didn't it? Every editing feature in the Director's Kit either doesn't recognize the media content on the disc or sends me to an upgrade that I have to pay for! A good thing for now is that the viewer lets me play my old CDV discs, but that's all I'll be using it for. Another thing is that this pack installs the data on disk and photo director which I don't need at all. At the same…

CyberLink Media Suite contains an insane amount of spam and nagware.

This BD/DVD/CD drive reads data discs instantly and plays audio CDs with applications included with Windows 10, but the drive does not include disc burning or playback software from Blu-ray or DVD-Video discs, it must be purchased separately. The product key is included in the downloadable Blu-ray player for Windows. The Blu-Ray/DVD/CD player works fine, but the CyberLink Media Suite software comes with some bugs and comes with a 30-day free trial. There is no way to enter the free product key…

Very nice little player, comes with a great hard case

So much to love about this metal body portable player that will last. This is a replacement for a player with a damaged plastic case. Plays and records all formats, except maybe not SACD but DVD-Audio. (Don't tell me about those obscure multi-channel formats—they're great, but haven't really caught on.) Plugs into a USB 3 port for full-bandwidth 4k Blu-ray and doesn't require an additional power supply. Provides USB port. There is some noise from the player, but not enough to disrupt the movie.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Not everything fits
