During the holidays, the rented house did not have stable WLAN in all rooms on the upper floor. I had some work to do while I was there and I was hoping this would work better than extension cords that plug into the wall? Because it connects directly to my Mac and comes out exactly as I hoped! The first time I plugged it in (removed the old 2.4 USB device and then plugged this one in) nothing happened at all, no once the typical USB device detection.
