Threaded Stainless Steel Wood Set Screw

As with all stainless steel products, you never know the quality of the metal until you expose it to salt water. If it passes the test, I'll give it five stars.

Pros
  • Used when standard wood screws cannot support the load (deck etc.)
Cons
  • Safety

Cons

Slightly smaller than the nominal size

Not quite as shown. Listed and labeled as "3/8 inch" (which equals 0.375) but they are slightly smaller. The Revain image shows a full-length shank just below the bolt head, tapering to a smaller diameter where the threads begin. But real screws don't have a full-diameter shank and the threads start just below the screw head. The Lag Hex Head Bolt Specification (ASME B18.2.1-1996) requires a major thread diameter range of .360 to .388. These screws are on the low end of that range, a far cry…

Pros
  • Inexpensive
Cons
  • Large and bulky
