This tool has reduced the installation of an instep strap by two people who broke their ankles to five minutes, and one person's work is easy! And for the money it was a no brainer. Works exactly as advertised. Highly recommended.

This belt tensioning tool is required when installing a new belt on Subaru engines. The included instructions make installation fairly easy, but you should at least be able to turn a wrench here and there before attempting this. It looks like the belt will break just before it is placed on the pulley but mine is installed as expected! Great tool!

Essential for installing the tension belt. Made from aluminum and plastic so not sure how many setups it will hold up. You will also need to grind down any sharp edges on the tool that will touch or cut the belt during installation. The plastic belt tensioner works very well. The piece of metal holding the belt on the left side of the AC pulley had sharp edges and broke the first belt. I had to cut off the sharp edges on the metal part, after that everything worked. If you have two people doing the job, no need to screw on the metal belt stopper, just use the plastic tensioner on the crank pulley and guide the belt by hand.

I'm a mechanic and I don't like using special tools when I don't need them and when I watched youtube videos of people installing an idler belt without these tools, I hesitated buying one. But when space is limited, especially with a large heatsink, I've spent hours trying to tighten the strap without this tool to no avail. I gave in and ordered this, and seriously, it took me about 3-5 minutes to install that stupid belt with it. Do yourself a favor and just get it.
