Let me start by saying that the product really works. With that in mind, the transition to the cylinder bore wasn't very smooth and I had a hard time with it. I have no experience with other similar products so take this for what it's worth.

Caution! As another reviewer said, there are ridges on the bottom of the case. They are small and can be removed quickly with an emery cloth. These burrs can scratch the piston or rings if you don't remove them. Otherwise these bushings make installation very easy and much better than band clamp type tools.

I was skeptical that this disposable tool was worth the money. Wrong again! Installing new "expensive" pistons and rings in my freshly machined little block could have been a disaster. but they slide right on with this wonderful tool. This is not the place to save on renovations!

Unfortunately I bent two scraper rings while attempting to use this ring compressor. Each time they stick to the bevel at the top of the hole. We tried to go slow and they catch every time. We tried going faster but it still caught and jammed in the bore. Unfortunately, I also had a streamlined shape.

This is literally the best ring compression tool I have ever seen. Yes, that's .030 more for 4" pistons than standard, and it's pretty expensive considering you can get a wrap-around ratchet compressor for under $10 and a decent multi-ring pliers for under $100. If you're going to do a job and put a few thousand into an engine, it's not expensive to have the right tool for around $35. I don't think you will break a piston plate or ring with this compressor.
