Won't be buying again

I recently did my second oil change with this filter which means I should have seen how the first one held up. Not good. The fins were unevenly distributed. There was also a strip of tape attached to the new filter. I'm glad I caught him before he hit the engine. Mine didn't have the blue caps shown in the picture and I bought it from a third party so there's a tiny chance it was fake.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • So far so good

Small filter for parts

Photographed this filter next to the Mobil 1 filter. Both filters fit my 2017 Camry. Larger Mobil 1 filter with seal on both ends. Both filters contain two individually wrapped O-rings. Boss has a fully synthetic filter media while Mobil 1 has a synthetic blend. I am concerned about the different filter sizes. Mobil 1 has a larger diameter. I have been buying Purolator filters for many years. I would switch to Handy 1.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • Expensive

Filter media outperforms all others

The Boss filter has been redesigned in every way. The most important thing is the actual filter medium. I prefer to change the oil twice a year and no more than 8,000 miles (4,000 for city or heavy duty driving). Synthetic oils can help extend drain intervals, but not with a cheap filter. Typically, oil change shops use the cheapest filters. This is usually a paper filter which can break and damage the engine. Why take the risk?

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Updates available

The factory filter looks larger with stiff fiber paper filling without the metal support but the top and bottom pleats don't seem airtight. This filter is sealed at both ends with metal that supports both the media and the core. The car seems to love the easy flow of this filter as it doesn't take time to reach operating temperature. It may also be the best oil I use rather than what the service dept can get in bulk.

Pros
  • handy
Cons
  • not reliable

Compare Purolator, K&N and OEM

Bought these three filters for our RX 350. Purolator - 56 pleats; outer diameter 59 mm; Made in USA Denso - 50 Folds; outer diameter 69 mm; Made in China K&N - 43 folds; outer diameter 69 mm; Made in Korea OEM - 46 Folds; outer diameter 69 mm; The Made in Thailand Purolator is significantly smaller than the OEM but makes up for it in the amount of wrinkles. However, the Purolator has a white felt material on the ends - the fibers seem to separate easily and I don't like that. It is also not…

Pros
  • Everything great!
Cons
  • Safety

Good filter, good price, convenient shopping!

Purolator filters are of high quality and have proven themselves well, regardless of the make and model of the car. I have always changed the oil myself and use Purolator whenever possible. My 2012 Toyota Sienna has 15,000 miles on it and after the first change I replaced the OEM filter with this Purolator. I don't recall the OEM having black rubber caps on the top and bottom, but it might have been. Regardless of what element captures dirt and debris, I believe a stock photo should be a…

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • I will not say anything
