TOTAL WASTE - Amplifier

Who builds an amplifier without a power meter? Aren't LEDs too expensive to attach to a device so we know if the device has power? Am I asking that much? I threw this one away and will be ordering another unit from a company that can add performance counters.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • No instructions

Mono Amplifier Pyle PHA15 3.5mm 1/8 " 150w

May not be 150w yet I use them as amplifiers for external CB speakers on my jeeps and a dune buggy and it works really well , I have Cobra 75 WX ST radios that don't have enough amplifiers to drive an external speaker loud enough in a car with the roof off.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Damaged

Volume Control Stuck

The potentiometer controlling the volume on this amp became stuck after a few weeks. Thankfully, it gets stuck in the midrange, but that's pretty annoying. Using pliers and pulling I can still adjust the volume, but for a device as simple as this I would expect the components to work if I paid $15. I took it apart to try and diagnose the problem and the solder joints are really badly done. Overall it does the job I bought it for (driving a small center channel speaker from my PC's built-in…

Pros
  • Very Good Quality
Cons
  • Low Repairability

Great strength; Small Package

I am using this to power a 15" speaker in an old vertical radio on our front porch. It takes the output from an old iPod and makes people think that a big block of wood not only works but can play Pandora etc. Something like listening to a ballgame on MLB.com on a vintage 1930s radio makes a summer evening so much better. For just a few dollars, the Pyle device will make that old radio sing again. Oh, and in case you've never listened to Glenn Miller and other big band records on the speakers…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Quality

Don't expect great bass, it just doesn't have the power to drive it.

Purchased to power a Minimus 7 speaker for a cheap music player at work. I connected it to my phone, it plays a decent tone at medium volume. obviously not 150 watts, but you knew that from the cost and size. The stereo signal is summed so that there is no haze in the sound. I gave it 4 stars because it works and gives me exactly what I wanted, a cheap music platform for the workplace that nobody will steal. I connected it to a very efficient 4 ohm speaker, 94dB SPL at 1 watt. surprised how…

Pros
  • Heavy Duty

This is an amplifier on a TDA2003A chip with a maximum output of 10W.

I use it to connect a 1920 Burns horn speaker along with a reverse connected line transformer. It wasn't very loud, not as loaded as my big amp. So I decided to open up this little guy to see what kind of chip he has (some need more volts for full power). The microcircuit inside is a simple TDA2003A. The recommended operating voltage is 18 VDC, but the capacitors in this device are rated for a maximum voltage of 16 VDC. You can safely run it from 16VDC, or swap out the capacitors and run it…

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

Not impressed - Car Audio

This is by no means a "150 watt" amp. not even 15W RMS. I tested it on three different speakers and got almost no audible response, even at maximum volume. When I bought it, I knew what it was: a pure mono-channel amplifier. It said: FOR: * Easy access to everything. CONS: * Little or no value. I meant a special application for it (portable guitar amp center). Also, I see no point in having a mono amp for an MP3 player*. Since it's rated for 12V and not 9V, it's obviously designed for in-car…

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not sure
