Should be sold as a network throttling device

This slowed down my network speed after the device and the speed went right back to normal when I removed it. Unfortunately I was too busy to return it and went through the return window. But it turns out to be an excellent paperweight.

Cons
  • Not as good as it says

did not affect my internet

Is the flash delayed? I have no idea. It doesn't seem to slow down my internet, but then my service is slow. I screwed the ground wire to the extension cord plug's ground pin (left power plug is empty) and connected it to my extension cord. I checked the ground on the extension cord and it's a short to ground.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Minor issues

Does it protect against overvoltage?

Very easy to install and doesn't slow down the connection at all. But does it protect against overvoltage? I haven't had the chance and hopefully won't find out. It is grounded to my UPS so time will tell. So far everything is working fine. UPDATE: no longer works. No splash, nothing. Just stopped working.

  • Quick Change

So far so good, let's see what happens in the next thunderstorm

So far so good. I've regularly had bad ports in the switches during a thunderstorm. Sometimes the router is buggy, sometimes just ports; So I went ahead and bought four of these to protect my switches. I don't use it for anything that requires PoE so I don't know if it works properly, but the links show up as a full 1000 and I haven't had any connection issues. I'll update my review if I have another storm and lose hardware despite these surge protectors.

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for seniors

Better than APC devices for shielded cables.

Contrary to some reviews this is a well designed device in my opinion. has appropriately shielded connectors, which is important if you are using a shielded Ethernet cable. The more expensive APC Ethernet surge protector doesn't offer screen continuity. The screen is not connected to the earth conductor and does not actively participate in overvoltage protection. But the continuity of the umbrella circle is important. These devices are very versatile and use parts called high speed diodes and…

It does not work. for accessories and consumables

Thing is, you don't know if they're any good until they've been tested. I bought a couple of these last year and installed them on the CAT-5 wires that run between the houses of the house. A storm hit last night and blew up all sorts of things and I'm still working on fixing it all. One thing is for sure: I have one of these that is open now, and the ethernet switch it was protecting was junk too. So I would say that unfortunately they don't work. It looks like you get what you pay for. I'm…

Be prepared for surges over ethernet

These surge protectors were purchased after we lost our smart tv and other ethernet connected electronics. There was nobody at home, but in addition to the Smart TV, two routers, two switches, a set-top box, an Ethernet port on an on-board computer and an Android TV set-top box burned down. One device, an ethernet radio (as we leave the internet), was protected by a similar device and continues to work fine. I've looked inside the device and it appears to be well designed and well made. The…

  • Delivery was very fast

  • Exorbitant price

Surges pass through this device

The device only protects half of the data path. Pins 1, 2, 3 and 6 are protected - pins are used to connect 100 Mb. Pins 4, 5, 7 and 8 - additional pins for gigabit connections - go straight through and are not protected. The device description states that 1000 Base-T Ethernet is secure. That's totally wrong. Also, they didn't even use "real" TVS diodes. They built it with 1n4007 diodes in series with half the pins that have no real potential as surge protectors. They can short out if enough…

Terrible product, not properly grounded, false advertising.

I should have read the previous reviews better before buying. cable) on my multimeter there was no electrical continuity in either direction. Unless I can trust the case to properly ground a shielded cable, I highly doubt it will actually protect as advertised. But strangely I bought two of these modules a month ago and now this item is no longer available. Shows how easy it is for bad products to slip into the market and how slow Amazon is at protecting consumers. 0/10 I would not recommend…

Corresponds to the declared manufacturer!

I bought a couple of these on a whim to test them out. They seem to work just as well as the manufacturer claims. We had a storm last night and a customer called me and said he didn't have wifi. In this particular setup, this surge protector was installed between the PoE injector and the EdgeRouter X. There were no LEDs on the ERX so I replaced the surge protector and, voila! His network was back up within a minute or two of my arrival at the crime scene. The cable modem at this location was…
