I used this with a 24 foot ladder to get onto the roof of a two story house and over the gutter. He was firmly attached to the stairs, I never felt safe. I had to wrap the top of the ladder (under the stabilizer) with a towel because it was touching the gutter and I risked scratching it. If the stabilizer extended an additional 2-3 inches, it wouldn't be a problem. I also used it at home around the corner and it worked great. I had to fix the gutters but I couldn't lift the ladder up to the gutter while I was working on it. I thought I would use a standard U spacing but the spacing wasn't enough, also they tended to be more expensive especially for toolless ones. This offers deeper clearance as it is designed to accommodate corners. I was able to put the ladder against the wall and easily access the gutters. The Corner Buddy works great. It was relatively easy to attach to the stairs and mounted directly above the top step there was plenty of clearance even in the corners with downspouts. I know the manufacturer says in the instructions to mount it *under* the top rail, but then the top rail gets caught in the downspouts.
