Programming was pretty easy

Finally a dual band FM and DMR radio! Programming was pretty easy. It took less than an hour and I'm new to DMR. I liked the expert mode option for programming. In my hand the GD-77 feels solid and durable, it looks very well built. The buttons are easy to press and just the right size for a man with big hands. The belt clip is beautiful, durable and spring loaded. I love the charge indicator light, it's really reassuring! Again, I am impressed with the battery life of the Radioddity products…

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Only available in black

Visit a DMR school before buying. Not suitable for travel or emergencies.

I'm sorry I can't use G-77; I have used VHF/UHF radios for over 40 years. What I needed was a radio that I could turn on, tune in to, listen to repeaters and decide which ones to turn on and broadcast. And I wanted it for emergencies and when traveling. This radio definitely does not meet these requirements. If I had known I certainly wouldn't have bought it, but there was no way to know in advance. I understand that DMR functions are complex and require a little learning. But you can't even…

Pros
  • nice thing
Cons
  • useless functions

This transceiver is exceptionally good, 5W digital analog dual band!

What makes this radio so valuable is that it works in both analogue and DMR modes, as well as dual band operation. The software for each DMR radio is becoming increasingly complex, so once you've gotten past the software learning curve, you'll be entering all of your data. And then save it on the radio. One thing that is really great is that their support email is actually answered. Funny tip They just added a promiscuous mode to the firmware which is very handy for you to go to the website and

Rating updated from 1 star to 5.

Review updated - see below: Bought this radio and it broke down after about three and a half weeks apparently due to a manufacturing defect. Based on that I gave it a low rating until a solution to my problem was found. I contacted the manufacturer to see if they would replace my 28 day radio. Update: I emailed Radioddity after writing my original one star review. They replied to me within ONE HOUR! On Sunday! They promised a quick solution to my problem. Within 24 hours I was contacted again -

Pros
  • Test results consistent
Cons
  • Unreliable

Amazing radio great value for money

After reading the many reviews here you will decide that buying this item is risky. Also, I've read tons of negative reviews about firmware, software, etc. All I can say is that my experience is anything but negative. And vice versa. I've never been so thrilled with a radio amateur under $100. I updated the firmware to the latest version before programming. I'm new to DMR but not new to amateur radio. However, the intimidation factor when setting up a DMR radio was high. People seem to complain

Great Radio - Helpful and informative support staff.

Let me start my review with that. My experience with DMR was limited to TYT MD-380 which I bought about 5 months ago. I am by no means an expert on DMR. I found my first leap into DMR radio programming a daunting task. CodePlugs, TalkGroups, Zones etc. were a foreign word that I had to deal with. Youtube was my friend here. With all that said, let me talk about the GD-77. I think it's pretty durable. I haven't abused it more than tossing it on my truck's seat, but I think it will survive a fall

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
