RAM Handlebar Coated U Bolt Garmin Review

I wanted to install my Garmin GPSmap 64st so I can easily see it while riding my ATV. It looks and feels strong enough to handle Alaska's rugged terrain. It was easy to install but no written instructions were provided but assembly was fairly easy. It came as a kit with one small exception, the small beveled roller on the bottom was broken but didn't interfere with use. I can't wait to hit the trails with him.

This mount is well made, but too big for my imagination [mountain bike handlebar mount]. It would be better to install it on my Harley, which I will probably use it for. My main complaint is that there were no assembly instructions or some parts in the kit. It had too many bolts and no nuts to tighten the U-bolts. I contacted the company who never responded to my requests for nuts. I had to go to the hardware store to buy.

I use this on the KLR650. I have a GPS strap that I attach to the handlebars for security, but to be honest I don't see the strap coming loose. The mounting bolts use nylock nuts, and the wing nut holding the whole thing together feels solid. On the KLR, I installed the GPS on the lower left bar behind the windshield. I received the Garmin GPSMAP 64X RAM mount on Thursday, took 5 minutes to install same day. I used it yesterday to keep the GPS on while driving and taking waypoints for about 4 hours. I had absolutely no problems. The GPS stayed exactly where I set it the whole time, didn't bounce or wobble back and forth. In theory this mount works but in practice it doesn't work well on a mountain bike where GPS is really handy. The main problem is that it does not stay on the steering wheel. I have several bikes. one has carbon bars and the other has aluminum bars, both slide down. I added a piece of rubber that fit between the mount and the handlebars and tightened it, but after a few rides it also fell off. This is a good product for my 20ft ocean going boat. It attaches easily enough to the windshield handrail and is easy to remove at the end of a boating day (I leave the actual U-bolt attachment on the handrail). The disadvantage of this product is that the mount is used by a large number of customers in or near salt water. UPDATE 07/01/2019: Well it happened, during a 30 mile snowmobile ride my expensive Garmin GPS device fell out of this one bracket and was gone forever . I really liked this mount and thought it was great for a while, but one mishap and I lost a lot of money. This thing should work 100% of the time when you drive inland. This mount is not an easy part of the kit but I'm not complaining about it. To the casual observer, this looks like a piece of heavy machinery obscuring the front view of the bike. Once you get your hands on it, you'll see that it's not at all, but it can be maneuvered through so many angles that one of them is sure to be right for you.
