Easy to use, reliable, accurate.

I mainly use them for heating in my aquariums. A bit pricey for this type of use but aquarium pet heaters are the worst, they are not accurate, stick 'on' etc. With Ranco I hook my heaters up to this and let them control the heater. It does its job well and doesn't drift or grab constantly. So, in the end, the security and accuracy is worth a small part of the extra cost.

Amazing quality at a great price

This controller is very well built and designed for use in harsh environments including marine applications. It's easy to install and the versatile design means you can use the same part. for 110V AC, 220V AC, 24V DC, 12V DC and many other electrical installations. I used it to replace a failed 16 year old controller. The entire installation, including removing the old block and programming the new block for my application, took less than 15 minutes. I highly recommend this item.

Pros
  • Hands-free control
Cons
  • Nothing here

Great reliable product

This thermostat is durable (my first one lasted over 10 years), sensitive and accurate. Analog thermostats that I have used in my greenhouses often get sticky and switch on and/or off slowly, resulting in large temperature swings. This device can be programmed to the exact temperature range you want and works great. Easy to program. The long sensor cable means you don't have to measure the temperature on the open wall where the control box is installed! Incidentally, this does not only apply to

Excellent product and very reliable

This is my second. I love this product. Works like a champ! I use them on the fridge in the garage and in the store. The store fridge is mainly for beer and this device keeps the temperature in the beer fridge at 32 degrees. I've had this product in my beer fridge for 4-5 years and it requires no maintenance. He just does his thing. I bought a second one to help out my garage fridge where we often store groceries. Austin, Texas gets hot during the summer months. Very hot! Especially in our…

  • Many positive emotions
Cons
  • Not bad

This is one of the coolest technologies out there. Extremely accurate and I've used it for 3 different things now. Since you can set it to register HOT or COLD, I have two of them. I first used it in my aquariums to control the heating I did, heck it kept it at exactly 60 as I requested with a 2 degree variable. Then I put it in the chick brooder where I installed the lightbulb, BAM! straight 85 degrees, again variable 2 degrees. During the summer I used it on my Swap Cooler, the most stable…

Great product BUT: Better be an electrician if you buy this!

Works great! However . . . . . Emptor's caveat: It comes with no plug to plug into the wall and no outlet to plug in your device, in my case: the fridge. It comes with a chart that is very complete. . . IF YOU ARE AN ELECTRICIAN! Not me. I paid about 40 shells for it and had to hire an electrician to hook it up for me which cost another 80 shells. So my $40 device cost about $130. The interior must also be connected. So you have to add the connectors and connect the internal wiring yourself…

Pros
  • Temperature and humidity
Cons
  • Requires outlet

Cannot be field calibrated

I've been using Ranco ETC temperature controllers for about twenty years, five of which were purchased around 2002 (no failures in that time). I recently needed two more units which I got through Revain. These two new units show 3F and 2F at the 150F that is so important to me. It would not be a big problem if the Ranco ETC could not be calibrated in the field: there is no manufacturer-approved way to set the temperature offset or otherwise remedy it. Either Ranco's manufacturing processes…
