Roll your own intercom

Flawless. We put a lot of thought into this and took care of it - installation and configuration was effortless. I particularly appreciate the detachable microphone and the included cable. I intend for him to be open 24/7 and intercept potential attorneys at my front door. Let's see how long it holds up in the elements. AMAZING SET

Pros
  • Brilliantly made
Cons
  • Compatibility

Excellent microphone sound quality

This is a nifty little device! It's easy to cut the mic and extend it with the included cable. Don't let the video on raspiaudio.com fool you either, the microphone is actually quite high quality. It records video at standard settings on an 8-bit unsigned dataset. Try recording myrecording.wav with arecord -f S16_LE -d10 -r44100 to get signed 44.1kHz big endian 16-bit (CD quality) audio. Speakers are fine too! Without problems we managed to connect two speakers of 5W 8 ohms. I wish there was a…

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Too long wait times

Dangerous design, beware! Don't risk your Pi.

Structure error noticed immediately after viewing. Its pins protrude from below directly opposite the metal cooler. It's a crazy design to short out your board. I had to send it back immediately. I'm still brave enough to try and use it by installing it very carefully, but the worst is yet to come. There is a button at the top to check if my Raspberry Pi malfunctions after pressing the button and eventually burns out :( I believe the pins actually touched the cooler when I pressed and that blew

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Periodicity

Awesome soundboard on my Raspberry Pi Zero Electronics

I have bought several of these boards in the past and I would rate this one as the best. Before installing the board on my Raspberry Pi Zero (which runs the full Raspberry Pi OS with desktop) I did a sudo apt update and a full sudo apt update and then rebooted. On their website I followed these instructions in a terminal window: sudo wget -O - mic.raspiaudio.com

Pros
  • Good thing
Cons
  • Damaged

Not as good as better at computer components

I bought this to use with the Home Assistant + Rhasspy project. I tried installing on both Raspberry Pi 4B and Raspberry Pi Zero. The audio output (text-to-speech) is okay in both cases. It's loud and clear enough to be heard and understood in a large family room. Unfortunately, I hear a constant clicking from the speakers ALSO in standby. This happens on both Pi4 and Pi Zero and in different rooms, so something is clearly wrong with the board. Microphone/Recording. totally useless. Tried to…

Pros
  • Cool
Cons
  • Fairly good

Microphone connector interferes with CPU heatsink

Pretty happy except the microphone connector interferes with the CPU heatsink when the heatsink is not parallel to the socket or you want to use the connector regardless of the orientation of the heatsink. Such a shame! The support has been a bit weak so far. But the microphone seems sensitive enough and the speakers are louder than expected.

Pros
  • New to my collection
Cons
  • No performance

Great support best in external soundcards

When I first connected it to the Pi and followed all the instructions from the Raspiaudio website it didn't work. I then contacted the seller and got an immediate reply to check a few things and it turned out that the problem was my Raspian image, after I recreated the SD card it worked like a charm. The only real issue I had was that the pins used when removing the mic from the board were right where the heatsink was on the Pi. I just cut off the rib on the radiator that was getting in the way

Pros
  • Lots of good vibes
Cons
  • For the old one

great idea poorly done

These sound cards looked great at first. Setup scripts can be made to work, but it's not so good for 8-bit audio. Then you come to the question of the heater, you can cook a hot dog on it! ok i didn't give up, it works like {had to build a cooler for it}, and even without a cooler you won't fit in a regular case. So I 3D printed a case with lots of air vents. thanks to the manufacturer, i'm doing it for fun anyway, i took it off my pi and put it back in the box, can't return it so i found out…

Pros
  • Sturdy finish
Cons
  • Not sure
