So glad to find this one

Haven't seen this sanding block in stores for years; I thought it was discontinued. The best sanding block ever invented. Holds paper tightly, easy to load, easy to grip.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Very expensive

I now have 4 of these

One for each spot I could sand a little. I always lost track of my grinders. So once I found them, it wasn't hard to stock up. They work just the way I like the sanding block. Easy to load/unload. Easy to handle.

Pros
  • Durable Finish
Cons
  • Unsafe

Best Hand Sander

I have been using this product for decades and have a hard time finding it in retail stores. Later Red Devil designs did not match these old ones. plastic product. It is so easy to use that a regular sheet of sandpaper is required, making refilling economical.

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Ineffective

Comfortable to hold, holds paper securely

The contour of the holder is much more comfortable for the hands than a block of wood. It grips the sandpaper well so your fingers don't get tired trying to keep the paper in place. The shape was also gentler on the fingers, which didn't have to touch the coarse sandpaper.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons

Red Devil holder

Cheap plastic holder. Works well on flat surfaces for short jobs. The two halves stay together thanks to tabs on the bottom that fit into the top. It doesn't work well, but if you hold it tight, it stays on. The sandpaper holds very well as it is held in place by the small spikes that you slide the sandpaper over. It's probably better to pay a little more for a more comfortable rubber grip.

Pros
  • Tools and household goods
Cons
  • Very expensive

IMHO best hand grinder ever

I bought one of these in the 70's and have been looking for another for the past 20 years. My old one is finally showing signs of wear. Here are the features I like: 1. Lightweight.2. Easy to replace or change the sandpaper.3. It uses plain old sheets of sandpaper that can easily be torn into quarters. Very little waste.4. Supple foam paper backing - lasts a long time.

Pros
  • Power and Hand Tools
Cons
  • Doubtful

The sandpaper block is different than what I'm used to.

I had the same sanding block as the one I bought. It was hard plastic, easy-to-replace sandpaper, the replaceable sandpaper was front-to-back (lengthwise) vs. the side, and the underside was hard plastic, not the "rigid foam" finish I bought. I prefer the sandpaper to be round front to back rather than side to side. Sometimes the front or back of the sandpaper would catch on a small piece of wood and tear easily. You'll probably need to get used to the sand or retrain. I couldn't find another…

  • Sanding blocks
