reliable as stated

Very happy with this refractometer. I bought this and it is very expensive. I ended up having to replace it with an expensive one because it didn't stay calibrated (Reichert Vet 360). The replacement still won't calibrate. However, this one has been great so far and never needed calibration.

Pros
  • ACCURACY: serum protein: ±0.2 g/100 ml; Specific Gravity of Urine: ±0.005; Refractive Index: ±0.0005 RI
Cons
  • Big and bulky

reliable instrument for Moneh

I am very pleased with how this device is built for only about $20 complete with nice box and accessories! You can't buy a lot of good stuff for $20 these days. It's easy to work with, just make sure you're using the right scale on the screen! If like me you need urine specific gravity make sure you use this scale and no others! Make sure to calibrate it to "0" with this scale! As for the doctor here giving it a bad grade for confusing it with the scale, I say hey, think and research what a…

Bad instructions The best equipment for analyzing substances

I am a doctor and used to run my laboratory. I bought this as I have patients who need a urine specific gravity test. I bought this myself to see how difficult or easy it was to use and to see if it correlated with the patient's hydration status and kidney function. The one-page instruction manual shows that the calibration is correct when the connection between the blue and white squares is at 0 and 1 on two different scales. In other words, the "0" scale is the same as 1.000 of the second…

Pros
  • LIGHTWEIGHT, made of the highest quality aluminum and rubber
