This door knocker only looks like black cast iron from afar. Not heavy at all, it's made of a silver-colored metal coated with some sort of black substance mixed with small particles. When I opened the package, the plating on the corners had already peeled off, revealing the metal underneath. It would be interesting to know the composition of the granular black coating. The product is imported from India.

I chose this hammer because the design in the picture really looked like a real set of oak leaves. Unfortunately what they sent me looked more like a cheap version of the picture than the picture itself. I would proudly post what was depicted on my door. I look out the window and see oak trees and my screen door is metal with oak leaves, so when the second battery operated doorbell broke I decided to use a simple hammer instead. Overall I really like this door knocker. It is well made, durable and attractive. My only criticism is with their installation. The hammer doesn't reach to a 90 degree angle from the door, so I had to get a specially curved screwdriver to try and get the screws in (no impact tool is needed for this job).
