The plastic base of the chair in the store broke. It has a wider footprint and is made of polished aluminum. I put on big wheels and everything is fine. Very durable and easy to roll on any surface. .

Good sturdy base for small office chairs. Should be much stronger than plastic. I buy smaller chairs and always change the base when the plastic broke and my wife fell on the floor. Since she doesn't have a right hip joint, I had to ask for help to lift her off the floor. Luckily she wasn't hurt.

We received this to fix a chair from Restoration Hardware that had a broken four wheel base. It fits perfectly with the hardware, perfectly matches the style of the chair, and it's also much more stable with 5 spokes. We installed SunnieDog inline skate style wheels and they match perfectly. Very happy with the result.

I bought two of these to breathe new life into my trusty office chairs. After a week of use, one of the ends came off the wheel less than an inch. I thought it would hold up better than a piece of plastic, but I was wrong. Seems to have been an expensive mistake. I cannot recommend this item to anyone.

After lying on my elbow on the concrete floor when the previous base (plastic) broke as I leaned forward a little, I decided that was enough. I saw them on Revain and decided to give it a try. It turned out to be a good choice and has kept me going thus far. I'm slightly over the recommended weight limit for most items used as office chair replacements so I have to be careful when purchasing such items. This base is a winner in my opinion as it doesn't show any signs of flex or "let me down"…
