I use them for buttering and sauces before and during cooking. Because I make this a lot, there's always one or two in the dishwasher, so it's handy to have extras. These are small so won't hold much, but they're great for squeezing a few drops out of a bottle. For heavy basting I use a large silicon brush. I like silicone brushes because they clean very well and handle the heat easily.

LOVE LOVE LOVE! These pastry brushes are easy to hold and hold enough sauce or oil that I don't feel like a pastry brush has to pick up the good stuff as often (for me, that's a thing of the past). I like that they have three. HOW perfect! I use green for vegetables, blue for meat, and yellow for baked goods. They have a hole in the end of the handle which is great because I hang all three from one coffee mug hook, that's how I hang LOTS of my everyday kitchen essentials.

I have just received the pastry brushes and the first thing that struck me was that the brushes I received did not look like the ones advertised. The grips are really hard, it's not clear. I'm not interested in one-piece handles because they're easier to clean since they're one piece. I am concerned about false advertising. Maybe the seller should just update the photo of the brushes. I haven't used brushes yet, so I'll only update this review if I find any issues with the brush function.

I bought this to replace a wooden handled boar bristle pastry brush that has been losing bristles for a long time. Also, the metal strap that holds the bristles to the handle is beginning to rust. These silicone brushes are great! They are all one piece so no food can get stuck under the rim and being silicone they are easy to clean. I was afraid they would be hard as plastic and pierce my food, but they are very soft and flexible! I'm so glad I bought them! Farewell, stub :-)

I mainly use them to brush bread with olive oil when making panini or phyllo dough when making spanakopita. They are very suitable for this purpose. I've also used them to coat the chicken with a thicker BBQ sauce and that worked great too. I think they are better than other brushes I've used because the silicone bristles don't fall out like natural bristles.
