I've always found the continuous loop on sweatpants to be annoying, but you don't want to "lose" the drawstrings, so stick with it for now. I have used them on two pairs of shoes for my boys now. For a pair I bought a laceless system but the bottom of the shoe dangled a bit. Adding the lacing halfway made the bottom tighter while the top could be loosened to allow for easy access. The second pair I made just used them.
