Aside from the initial rubber smell (which is to be expected so I'm ok with that) they're great. I have hardwood stairs that can be slippery, especially with socks on. Firstly, the rubber smell was quite strong right out of the box, but I left the treads individually laid out on the deck surface for about a week before placing them inside stairs. and it worked - a few weeks later your nose should be pretty close to the tread to smell real rubber. They are very attractive and do the job for humans and our dogs (provide better grip on bare wooden stairs) BUT (second warning) note that the tread is thick enough that it's dangerous to land your foot on the edge .

Good strong weight. I was so happy to find these 6 pieces for such a good price! I bought these for my wooden deck stairs which are almost always smooth (despite using a non-oil based stain). I have an older dog who has trouble with stairs especially when they are wet and/or icy but this will make it safer for us humans too.
