Tandy Safety Skiver 3001-00 with Ten Replacement Blades 3002-00 Combo Review

Worked very well for skinning deerskin but it only took a couple of hours for the handle to start rusting.

It feels very light in my hand and just glides over my skin like a hot knife through butter. It's very sharp and I've used it on 10 pieces of leather without changing the blade. (I love that it has extra features!) The rolled edge makes it extra comfortable to hold and use. Absolutely worth every penny. I see no need for other skiers in my shop.

I am new to the leather business and see this product as a solution. I know some leatherworkers say there are better tools out there. but it works well once you play around with it/find the middle ground where it removes exactly what you want it to do. when/where and how hard to press when pulling over a piece of leather. I've used it to thin out the area where buttons or grommets will be inserted or material will be folded and it helps.

Initially I was very disappointed with the performance of this 'old spare' as I used the original blade that came with the tool. After weeks of struggling and contemplating whether I might need to try another option, I decided to watch Tandy's tutorial video, which prompted me to replace the blade with a new one. A sharp blade is everything! This tool is incredibly easy to use and effective, I can't imagine ever paying more for a more complex skiver.

I call every positive feedback this tool gets a scam. No real person who has *actually* worked with leather has ever used or loved this tool. Simply put, it is inappropriate. It's poorly designed and thin. The included blades are quite dull and incredibly fragile. All supplied blades broke when working with a sole. I went for the price and the reviews seemed good. . Maybe others have something better, but what I got is pure garbage. When I received it there was already a blade in the hilt and it was packaged in nothing but a plastic sleeve so maybe I just got it back and it was broken? Who knows. . The blade just rests against the handle and the blade moves when you try to cut the skin. There is no way to push the blade further than it is. . without risking cutting myself, so I skip it.
