good rehearsal Suitable for making rings.

Great pattern. All wood is marked which is nice. He had good variety, few reps. Only about one or two were damaged/cracked/broken off. The rest were all in good condition. Definitely recommend. I use it to make rings.

Ideal for pickaxe grips

I bought these for another purpose. I make picks and use materials for grips. They are ideal for scales with a handle. Not necessarily for knives, but it works great for small tools like picklocks and anything else that size. They are very thin, like 1/16 inch.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Safety

Building Material Suitable Wood Marking Set

Each piece is marked with the name of the tree. I have used it several times to identify pieces of wood. There was only one piece with a crack. This is normal for the tree, nothing to worry about. To protect the veneer pieces, I purchased Avery Mini Diamond Clear Sleeves and Mini Binding (available from Revain). I made a smaller pocket in the cover sleeves with our Seal-A-Meal machine and inserted a piece of veneer into the pocket. Now it's a book made of wood.

  • Decent Performance

suitable for curved rings

I bought this product to make rings. Large selection of wood types, including knotty wood. I also liked that some had multiple cuts giving different grain patterns. After the first 9 rings and 5 types of wood I am satisfied with the result. Length too short for rings. It still works, but if it's shorter it will reduce the thickness of the ring too much. Some parts are warped, but for my purposes that doesn't matter because I'm soaking and shaping them anyway. I also see great potential in this…

A little exotic

I love making things from wood scraps so I order a lot of scraps and sometimes need help identifying them. Minus: I would like more exotic woods. Most of them are ordinary home forests. Lots of oak, pine, maple, etc. Most of this set is from the US and Canada. But every sentence is different. Maybe you have better luck. Pros: The samples are strong, some are thicker than others. And that's good. The size and texture of the specimens are also large, which makes them easy to identify. Overall: I…

More of a veneer sample kit than a wood identification kit

Note that these are veneer samples from a veneer supplier, so kind of a marketing tool. If you visit The Wood Database, you know that visually identifying a tree is, at best, an educated guess. This is more useful for selecting options for a project or presentation to a client (although the veneer is a bit fragile to handle). It is better to go to your favorite supplier and choose the parts you need. Keep snippets of projects for reference. Also note that just because wood is available in…
