Description of SCHMETZ 5 Super 🧡 Nonstick Sewing Needles (Size 90/14)

A Super Universal Needle with a non-stick coating of NIT (Nickel-Phosphor-PTFE). Extra-large eye is suitable for embroidery work. The eye corresponds to a needle two sizes larger (i.e. the 70/10 Non Stick eye is similar to a size 90/14 regular Universal eye). Distinctive scarf with the special design of the eye ensures prevention of skipped stitches. Slightly rounded point provides trouble-free sewing on most materials. Strong conical blade reinforcement easily handles thick fabrics like denim. Fabric Use: Machine embroidery, hook and loop tapes, general sewing. Five needles per package.

Amazing innovation in needles!

This new Schmetz non-stick needle is excellent! It goes through the sticky fleece easier than conventional embroidery needles and the machine runs smoother and quieter. I love her!

Pros
  • Sewing Machine Needles
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

Easy to break

I've been using this needle brand for 51 years. I recently broke three that were very old. I sewed a lined tapestry curtain, restored the sofa and had no problems until recently. All I've been sewing lately is cotton for making masks. I could see if my Bernina dealer offers another brand. They were closed due to Covid when I ordered them.

Pros
  • Arts, Crafts & Sewing
Cons
  • Big and bulky

The coating wears off with prolonged use.

These are good needles, they help sew thicker waterproof coated fabrics where regular needles get stuck. My machine didn't have enough power to get through it and the non-stick needles gave me the extra help I needed. However, the coating is not permanent and wears off fairly quickly. You can go through more needles than you expect for a large project. I made a simple 2ft duffel bag and used one needle, could probably use a second one. Good that my project was no longer there. Nice to have for…

Pros
  • Machine Needles
Cons
  • I don't remember
