Economical for fish and aquatic animals

Hundreds of readings cheap but hard to tell what those readings are unless the level is too high or you never know if it's bad or not

Keeps fish alive in aquarium test kits

Not available in Instant Read. Once in the tank, the gauge will continue to read the current readings. I love the fact that you can just look at it and know that yellow = good and blue = bad.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • No form required

Great product but fish can play with it

Got a couple of these for my fish tanks after my first one did a great job with the spike alert in my large goldfish tank but found them thin and thin enough that the small fish can squirm behind them and knock them down. Luckily, they work just as well on the bottom of a tank.

Excellent safety device

Easy to use, made of clear plastic, remove and place in the water tank. One of my tanks showed an instant color change. This enabled me to act immediately. I have also found that it is now making a splash in my aquariums. Any movement of the gravel right after this will cause spatter, so now I'm countering it with an ammonia wash. I ordered another one for my fourth tank.

Pros
  • Complete set
Cons
  • Useless functions

A much cheaper way to check ammonia levels!

Much cheaper in the long run! I have several aquariums and the strips are expensive! One of them went gray in a few days and I wasn't sure what that meant so I tested it with a strip and it turned out there was ammonia in that tank! They don't have a gray area to let you know to test the waters.

Pros
  • Special offer
Cons
  • Discontinued model

Difficult to read good for fish and aquatic animals

a few reads I wasn't sure what was going on - half the line is missing on normal mode and the other half of the line is missing on low alert. I assume this means the reading was halfway between the two readings - a chemical reading was taken and it was. I've only tried this a couple of times but so far the accuracy has been correct, wish I had it for nitrite too.

  • good
Cons

Love this Ammonia Alert

Before trying this system I was constantly testing for ammonia, changing the water and spending a fortune on water treatment because my API test showed total ammonia not just hazardous ammonia etc. These Alerts are very sensitive and you can see at a glance where your water parameters are and if you have any problems. I still do tests, but every few days instead of twice a day, and the alert has never been false. I check for nitrites and nitrates just to make sure they aren't failing, but so…

Pros
  • Pleasing
Cons
  • Protection
