Best Activated Carbon in Aquarium Pumps and Filters

After playing around with all types of activated charcoal for my 100 gallon reef aquarium I finally gave it a try, it's expensive compared to many types of charcoal but all in found far superior to phosphorus. The claims are definitely true and also that it doesn't clog my reactor and as soon as I installed it in my reactor I noticed a huge difference in flow, much more flow! I love them all, will I ever use them

Pros
  • Positive Only
Cons
  • Sad Packaging

Amazing things! Water is easy to think about!

This is the best charcoal I've ever used! Water flows through coal. Most of the OTHER carbon is tightly packed and only a small amount of the water actually flows through the real carbon while the rest of the water flows through the top of the filter. NOT with this carbon. These are specially shaped granules that do not stick or bind together, requiring the water to flow through the charcoal, resulting in the water and charcoal sharing a huge space on the surface of the charcoal. The carbon…

  • Great for me

Rolls Royce Aquarium Carbon.

The bigger the bath, the better the price. Let's just get that obvious statement out of the way. With that in mind, Seachem Carbon can be bought at a good price, which is very good to know considering you are buying the best. I put mine in a Seachem "The Bag" filter bag. Transferring this charcoal from a pot to a bag will not create a cloud of charcoal dust. That alone makes me smile. The blushing is quick as the initial black cloud disappears almost immediately and another smile appears on my…

Pros
  • I'm holding my fists
Cons
  • Hard to say

I switched from pre-packaged Fluval charcoal in my canisters and Aquaclear to this charcoal in a Fluval reusable pouch and it has been proven to work well in water containers crystal clear, holds up that way long, if not longer than I'm used to, and doesn't wash too badly; There's quite a bit of dust, but it's washed off pretty quickly with a regular faucet. The only thing I would recommend is to get a larger can than you think you need - big cans are more economical and you can get away with…

Pros
  • Highly rated by testers for grip and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

Top quality carbon

If there is one carbon to recommend, I recommend the Seachem Matrix carbon. The capacity and durability of this charcoal is unmatched by other brands I have used before. Somewhat uniquely, Seachem manufactures its carbon in spherical form so that it is hydrodynamic and allows water to flow through easily without sticking together. At the time of this review I was using the same charcoal. for just over two months in a 75g tank. It still absorbs odors and keeps water crystal clear with regular…

I really love this stuff

I really like this stuff. I've been using cheap standard base charcoal for years and have decided to switch to Chemipure and Chemipure Elite. I've found them to work amazingly well and have made my aquarium really crystal clear. However, these products can get quite expensive and may not last as long as advertised. I finally tried this product in my canister filter and couldn't believe how crystal clear they made my tank. I know some people say carbon is useless in an aquarium other than to…

  • Finally bought it
