Kill you, not the engine.

Circuit breaker failed during second trip. Poor design means that when you pull the cord, the switch stays up and the motor stays on. Potentially lethal and dangerous product. The kill switch is meant to turn off the engine, but this one is more likely to kill you or someone you love. Would give zero stars if possible, selling such a poorly designed security product should be illegal.

Pros
  • Electrical
Cons
  • Spare available

Your engine will not die.

We bought this to replace the switch on a 1986 Bayliner Capri ski boat. The old kill switch was a push button type and the top of it broke causing the outboard motor to stall in the middle of the lake. Not funny. We decided to replace it with this emergency shutdown mechanism. It was easy to install, just a couple of wire cuts and worked amazing. We haven't had any issues with the kill switch turning off and the engine stalling since installation. Great product, great price.

  • Boating and Sailing
Cons
  • Don't really like it, everything is fine

Great price - not as much as Installation instructions

On September 1st, 2019 Texas passed a new law requiring any boat with a "kill switch" to use this thing. I encourage everyone to comply and would like to set an example with my old boat which did not have one and would therefore qualify for this requirement. But do your research before you buy it, or you'll have to pay to have it installed at a boat shop (if they do it at all - they're happy to sell their own parts). You get a blueprint of the switch with the switch, but the switch schematic is

Pros
  • Battery isolator
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
