You read that right. This is a beautiful but not very practical mailbox. To get your mail, you have to open and hold the top with one hand, then insert the key and open the front latch with your other hand. Then you have to let go of the top to free your first hand to grab the mail, and now you have to put the mail on the ground to be able to close the latch and lock it while still holding the top open! The paint also scratches very easily so you have to be careful not to touch it with your key

I replaced a 15 year old mailbox with this stylish unit and wish I had made the change sooner. Unfortunately, I almost immediately lost the keys but was able to contact the seller for duplicates. Make sure you inspect the mailbox when you receive it, especially for damage around the hinge screws that can cause them to become loose or fall our with regular use, perhaps a rivet would have been a better choice. Not too heavy and seemingly sturdy enough to hold up for years. Simple to install with the right drill bits and an assistant. And I love how the modern style works with our old school exterior. Give it a shot!

This looks nice and feels sturdy, but the instructions are horrible. Could be way more detailed. If installing on a brick veneer like me, will need longer/better screws than what it comes with.

The screws for the locking door flap come unscrewed when you open the door. One of the screws tore through the thin metal side it is supposed to be attached to. It easily warps and bends. Not worth the amount of money you pay for it.
