$350 to convert to 220V!

This dust collector actually works fine, but it requires a lot of power. You can't use it and have a planer, jointer, drum sander or table saw on the same circuit in a normal residential shop. We've moved and I now have a 30 amp 220V line in my shop. The W1823 motor is easily converted to 220V.but I also need to spend almost $350 for the magnetic switch assembly in order to make it work, and you can't just convert the motor leads & add a readily available <$50 220V magnetic switch. That's…

Pros
  • ‎No
Cons
  • Its relatively large size may make it challenging to move around, as it requires a decent amount of floor space and is heavy to lift

Good Machine but Power Hungry and Loud.

Good vacuum and the remote control has great range. Louder than I had hoped it would be. I must use hearing protection when it is running. I will probably move it to the other side of the wall to get some floor space back and quiet things down. Only problem is that it trips out my 20 Amp dedicated circuit breaker on cold startup almost every time. After resetting the breaker it starts and stops fine.

Pros
  • ‎35 x 21 x 21 inches
Cons
  • The unit can be difficult to clean thoroughly, as the inside of the cyclone chamber tends to accumulate dust and debris

Tips over easily. This is a piece of junk

First one came damaged. Second one also dinged, but workable. Motor squeaks as it slows down, lots of tiny leaks at the welds. The metal strap that holds the bag on below the filter falls off regularly. The filter agitator only contacts about 20% of the filter, requiring manual cleaning. Tips over easily. This is a piece of junk. Spend the extra $200 and get a real one.

Pros
  • Works as well as I would expect. A little noisy.
Cons
  • The Shop Fox W1823 Portable Cyclone Dust Collector is quite loud, making it difficult to use in smaller workshops or shared spaces

Its a pretty good dust collector

Its a pretty good dust collector, but the parts were a little bent on some of the canister and cyclone.Other than the poor packaging and bent parts, the collector does its job.

Pros
  • ‎W1823
Cons
  • The plastic collection bin is not as durable as some users would prefer, and may crack or break over time

Some Assembly Required

This dust collector works and functions great. I couldn't ask for a better one. It is exactly what I was looking for. It came in two boxes, well packed, and damage free. The only gripe I have is that the assemble instructions where a little vague when installing the funnel, and I had to buy a tap to clear the threads of paint where the wheels mount to the chip collector. All in all, the assemble wasn't a big deal for me as I have quite a fair amount of mechanical knowledge, but I can see how it

Pros
  • ‎Portable
Cons
  • Some users report issues with the electrical connections, which may cause intermittent power problems or shutdowns
