Description of Shun Combination Micro Ribbed Sharpening Technique

With each use and over time, the edge of a knife slightly bends and, while the edge is still sharp, it is not in a proper position for efficient cutting; Shun Sora Honing Steel properly realigns the blade. Honing is not the same as sharpening; honing realigns the knife to its original, straight edge but doesn’t sharpen; Shun provides free re-sharpening on Shun knives if needed. Whether using on paring knives, utility knives or chef’s knives, the Combination Honing Steel is an ideal tool to ensure Shun kitchen knives are operating at maximum efficiency. Built-in, easy-to-use angle guide on handle makes it simple to hone Shun knives to the correct 16-degree angle. Use the Combination Honing Steel to make sure Shun knives are cutting at peak perfection before preparing for holidays, supper clubs, date nights, parties, brunch, happy hour or family dinners.

A good product. in the kitchen and dining room

I like the quality of the goods, the customer service is a little lacking. I registered all my purchases with them but they didn't verify it so I don't know about this part.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Hard to say

Came with scratches

The steel is decorated with a few scratches. Some of these can be felt during honing. The honing steel packaging came unsealed and mentions "Details Inside" when referring to the limited lifetime warranty. But inside was nothing but steel itself. This may be a previously returned item that was resold. It will be returned.

Pros
  • Amazing
Cons
  • Weakly adjusted

Suitable for Japanese knives

There are many good sharpening steels and this is one of them. The main attraction for me is that it has a guide to help me set the 16 degree angle that fits my Japanese knives. It is also important that one side of the bar is plain steel with no grinding function. That's what you really need to sharpen and that's all I use with this rod.

Pros
  • Keeping my fists
Cons
  • So so

Does the job, maybe a little more functional than the Classic line

I have several Shun kitchen knives so I wanted to stick with the Shun line but not overpay for the right sharpening steel Premier/Hikari- lines. As far as I can tell the steel has stayed the same and the Sora also had a combination of plain and ribbed steel. The combination models also have a thicker guard with a cut-out to prevent rolling. I find the classic version is fully ribbed and has a simple round guard. I don't know why I was so scared of sharpening myself, it's so easy and I feel like

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • Not all will fit
