The perfect solution to a tricky problem

Many homes use a three wire cord and circuits are separated with a common neutral and separate red and black wires. Until this switch came along, arcing couldn't protect these circuits. This switch will work provided the neutral wire does not turn off and feed any other, third circuit. If all outlets are on the same two circuits, this switch will work.

Pros
  • Breakers, Load Centers and Fuses
Cons
  • Older Model

AFCI is a HORRIBLE invention!

Arc switches are the solution. These switches are constantly interfering with operation! Not only bipolar, but also unipolar. I called Siemens and of course it's a problem on my side. AFCI circuit breakers are NOT ready for prime time. My washing machine trips, my ice dispenser in the fridge trips, my son's laptop charger trips, the halogen light down the stairs trips, oh yes, the garage freezer trips! How can it be? GARBAGE!

Pros
  • Tools and household goods
Cons
  • Out of fashion

AFCI Siemens Q220AFCP 20-A Double Pole Combination Circuit Breaker

Taps for desktop outlets and appliances such as dishwashers and microwave/extractor hoods. The wiring was only installed in 2008 and was mostly new and up to date so I couldn't justify removing and replacing it at the customer's expense just to meet the new 2014 NEC AFCI requirements for kitchen circuits. These 2 pole 20A circuit breakers did an excellent job and there weren't any false trip issues which I was concerned about as they affected two kitchen circuits and not one when the 2 pole…

Pros
  • Arc Fault Circuit Breaker
Cons
  • Ugly Packaging
