Single Use Only

This sharpener worked really well the first time I used it. The second time I used it, it didn't sharpen anything. I tried to email the seller about this but got no response.

Pros
  • Great Price
Cons
  • Expensive Insurance

Inexpensive quality sharpener!

I bought this to sharpen my scissors which I use every day professionally for cutting heavy and light fabrics. I tried using this sharpener and it ruined two pairs of scissors. Terrible product and I don't recommend it, maybe it's good for knives but the ceramic broke almost immediately. Therefore I cannot recommend this product.

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Nothing

Excellent sharpener for gardening tools

I have used it to sharpen hand shears and pruning shears. I had to take the hand shears apart to sharpen the entire blade, but it wasn't that hard to do. Both tools were almost razor sharp, sharp enough to cut. I also like that your fingers are protected if you slip or otherwise touch the blade.

Pros
  • Not only useful for its intended purpose
Cons
  • Available in white only

Great value sharpener

I had my fingers crossed when I bought this hoping it would work but I'm pretty sure I'd have to send it back because it was so cheap. To my surprise, it works very well! He sharpened my scissors and knives with very little effort. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that with larger objects it can be a bit difficult to get it in the right position. But he really escalates everything.

Pros
  • Happy so far
Cons
  • Clarity

Not for sewing scissors

I bought this sewing scissors sharpener and it didn't really work. Sewing scissors have to be very sharp to cut through a lot of layers and I've had two pairs that got too dull. I think the scissors could be a bit sharper, but not enough for my purposes. I was hoping to avoid the hassle and expense of having them professionally sharpened, but it didn't work out. The sharpener will likely work for general purpose scissors. I haven't tried knife sharpeners yet.

  • Free for educational purposes

Worst tool I've ever used!

I followed the scissor sharpening instructions exactly. I'm an engineer so I understand the use of tools. So when I pushed the scissors through the tool, bits of plastic flew off the sharpener, and after about five times the scissors became completely dull - they couldn't even cut the paper. I read about this tool in Handyman magazine, so I expected a lot more. The body of the tool is made of cheap plastic that will bend when you try to use the tool. Then I sharpened my scissors on a grinding…

Not as great a product as expected

After much research I decided to give it a try. Well I wouldn't recommend it for scissors at all. Scissors, like sewers, are serious tools that require a lot of investment. When I used my kitchen scissors as a tester (which are not very high quality), this tool created bald spots on the scissors. You can't just drag blades through rocks. They are so rough that they can only be pushed, not pulled. He didn't sharpen them at all and now I have a spot in the middle of the blades that won't cut…

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • A number of factors

Works wonders with garden tools and shears

This is a good set of sharpeners in one tool. I particularly like how easily the edges of all my old scissors have been brought back to life; Spitzer only paid for scissors. The large finger guard also protects your hand when sharpening large tools. However, for a great knife blade, choose a ceramic hole. You don't need any technique, just hold the knife upright and pull it through the ceramic with light pressure. Do not roll the knife from the vertical position or you will dull the blade at a…

Pros
  • Sturdy finish
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Do not use on expensive knives!

Ideal for very dull knives. This gives them a fairly sharp edge, but if you look closely you can see that the blade is very rough and chipped. It cuts well but shortens blade life. It is ideal for pocket knives, hunting knives and cheap kitchen knives. I sharpen my good knives with a thinner whetstone that keeps the blade smooth. Update 11/06/17: I've added 2 photos showing what my edge looks like after using this sharpener (Rachel Ray Chef's Knife). Ceramic sharpeners (white) work well, but…

Pros
  • Complete set

  • Requires socket

Pleased with the quality of sharpening scissors and knives.

I had modest expectations as I usually sharpen my woodworking tools and knives with diamond stones and it is MUCH cheaper. But I didn't like sharpening scissors, so I gave it a try. It has worked well to date, bringing some of the old "as dumb as can be" scissors back to life, and has also worked well with a few pairs that have already been used. pretty good shape. As for the knife sharpening feature, it works quite well unless you just need or want the highest quality blade. The results were…
