When I first took them out of the box, I immediately noticed a suspicious bluish cast on the metal. They looked more like other zinc plated hardware I have than the stainless steel they were advertised to be. My suspicions were confirmed when I put a drop of muriatic acid on one of them. You can see in the photo I've attached where the HCl has blackened and chipped the zinc, revealing the smooth steel underneath.
