I bought this to speed up my 2012 Mac Tower Pro. The card was delivered on 08/03/2018 = fast delivery. The instructions were simple; prompted to insert the card into the PCIE slot, which I did. I booted up my Mac Tower and didn't even have to download drivers. Connected to my Sony HDR-CX580 for uploading photos and videos. Much faster than USB 2.0 on the tower. Great product, easy to install, easy to use and so far I give it 5 stars. See pictures for details. By the way, I'm using macOS Highโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Solid Finish
Cons
  • Neutral

I bought this for my 2012 Mac Pro about 7 months ago and it worked fine until recently when it started doing the same thing as a another reviewer reported: When my Mac goes to sleep, all drives attached to it are unmounted. And it seems to turn on and off many times during the night while sleeping. I wake up with six notifications each that 4 hard drives have been incorrectly disabled. This is very disappointing as these drives are used for backups and some of them contain operating systemsโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Quick replacement
Cons
  • Some bugs

While many of the comments here focus on the fact that this card is plug and play (and it is), I have focused on installing a 4x SATA hard drive enclosure via USB 3.0. The MacPro has 4 hard drive bays and I use them all. The problem is that they use the computer's power supply, generating heat and preventing heat from escaping the computer. This allows me to eject those drives and still get the same, if not slightly faster, speeds from those drives, reducing the load on the MacPro. Are thereโ€ฆ

Works great with Windows 10

I wasn't sure if Windows 10 supported it well as the description says it requires Windows 7 but once I installed it Windows 10 auto-detected Fresco USB 3.0 drivers. I ran a speed test with a fast flash drive and got the same speed as my USB 3.0 motherboard! The purple is a nice touch, seems better than the default green board. Also, because Sonnet is an American company, I trust them a lot more than a Chinese company's products, even though they're made in China. At least we know that theโ€ฆ

Fast when used with solid-state plug-ins.

Installed on a MacPro5.1 with Sierra 10.12.6. If you need to power your IOS devices, visit the Sonnet Allegro website and download the power drivers for them. At first you won't see any power from it. IF you use an external device with anything other than an SSD or mSata SSD, it won't burn your socks. Expect read and write speeds of around 70MB/s. However, with the 850 Evo mSata you're seeing read and write speeds of 335-350. Good card for your money. Another good option if you don't need 4โ€ฆ

Plug and Play for Mac Pro 2010 5.1

Works! Outstanding throughput. (Tested with Blackmagic Designs Hard Drive Tester on all my devices.) Mac OS High Sierra. I had a USB 3.0 4 port that didn't work for me (Inateck) as did the previous reviewer. Ports stopped working AND caused some conflicts on native USB ports like external devices (SD, portable drives, etc.) preventing them from being mounted. Very pleased and relieved that Sonnet was easy to install. It fits snugly into the PCI-E slots and the connector wire is better alignedโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Annoying
