As3x set up is not hard!

Very clean to install. must be able to read and carefully follow directions step by step. if you do that you will be very pleased. I set up 3 of them and will get one for the next plane I set up too.

Pros
  • I have not used this yet but when I do I have the experience to trust that it will work flawlessly.
Cons
  • There have been reports of the receiver malfunctioning after an extended period of use, requiring costly repairs or replacements

Functionality and price

As usual, Spektrum is the leader in RC Transmitter and receiver electronics. I have a DX6 Gen 2 transmitter which I used to program the receiver. Very straight forward. Word of caution. When you fly the plane with the newly installed receiver. DO NOT USE the SAFE mode. Once you have reached a high and safe elevation switch to SAFE mode. I had a plane the flipped over and crashed once. Did it only once. Otherwise, everything Okay.

Pros
  • Easy to program with plenty of features. A great value for the money!
Cons
  • The AS3X programming can drain an RC aircraft's battery faster than other options on the market, reducing overall flight time

Used to work. on my review.

Figures this would break a week after the 30 day return. it worked great for the first few flights then it got erratic. You have to set it flat or on its side in the aircraft for the safe mode this one now thinks is level at a 45° angle and ive tried everything is not my setup I have others that work great. It's an expensive part in a expensive hobby and for it to fail so soon is very very not cool. Basically it's junk and I'm stuck with it.

Pros
  • This receiver is great!!Just like all the flight receivers spectrum makes.
Cons
  • In some cases, the receiver may not fit securely into the RC aircraft, causing it to rattle or move during flight

Have Bought Several- But Bummed About Price Increase

I have 4 or 5. I'm using them in Flite Test Foam planes and they have worked great. With the 15% price increase I might have to explore other options. Forward programing took a little bit for me to figure out. However, I've now swapped enough of these around that I can do it in about 10- 15 minutes has have initial set-up, AS3X, and Safe set up and ready to go. The tip of always using factory set-up seems wise to me. It helps me to do all the steps every time.

Pros
  • Great receiver easy to setup with my dx8 g2. Works great glad to have safe.
Cons
  • The unit may require additional hardware or software to function properly, which can add to the overall cost of the device

Absolutely terrible Junk

Looses communication with my dx8 while in flight after take off and at a high throttle speed receiver lost communication lost control surfaces motor died and plane glided for serval hundred feet luckily we found the plane and with no damage

Pros
  • not much to add, works great so far
Cons
  • The size of the receiver is quite large, which makes it difficult to fit into certain types of RC planes or helicopters

Not much good to me.

Other than the basic functions, elevator, rudder, ailerons, and throttle, can't get to work. Bought it to get the safety features. I don't know if the receiver, transmitter,or manufacturer is at fault. Why send me a new transmitter/receiver that needs updates before you can use it?

Pros
  • Safe, AS3X, Forward programming, panic, whats not to like!
Cons
  • The process of setting up the receiver can be time-consuming and frustrating, especially for those new to the hobby

Not fully compatible with all DX transmitters

You will not be able to use "Forward Programming" for the AR630 using an older DX radio such as the DX7s. This is contrary to information provided by Spektrum on their website and in their YouTube instruction videos. "SAFE" and "AS3X" will be useless unless you have a more up to date transmitter.

Pros
  • Ready to use with Spektrum Smart ESC for one-wire telemetry data without the need of modules, links and wires
Cons
  • The speaker system on the receiver can be loud or distracting during flight, making it difficult to focus on controlling the RC aircraft

Great product, would purchase again

This ar630 is great.I put it in a flitetest p51 master series and paired it with my nx8 transmitter.it worked very well.the safe mode and as3x works great.in safe mode anyone could fly this plane

Pros
  • In order to use forward programming you must make sure your radio has updated firmware at least 2.08
Cons
  • The weight of the receiver can throw off the balance of some models, requiring extra work to maintain stability

It is a fine receiver BUT.

This is a fine receiver but in order to use the features such as SAFE and Failsafe you need a transmitter that is capable of forward programming. My DX9 transmitter does not have forward programming so I kind of paid extra money for those aforementioned features. Stupid me.

Pros
  • Works great
Cons
  • The range of the receiver isn't as far-reaching as some other options, limiting the distance you can fly your RC aircraft

Small but SAFE capable.

This reciever is perfect for fitting to the flitetest DIY aircraft, small enough to fit any model and the inbuilt antennas still have all the range required to fly within sight. Bind button does away with the requirement to fit a bind plug so can be fitted to hard to access places. Has full safe mode capability so suitable for any level of flying skill. Highly recommended.

Pros
  • We have several flights with this receiver. Safe works well with nitro plane.
Cons
  • There have been concerns about signal interference from other electronic devices, causing the receiver to lose connection with the RC aircraft

Make sure to Range Test

Seemed like a good reciever, but during a Range Test, I had a ton of holds and fades. Wouldn't trust this on a large valuable plane. Had it on a Freewing F-16 and had devastating connection issues.

Pros
  • Already used the receiver in a model. It is easy to set up and performs well!
Cons
  • The AS3X programming may not be helpful for all types of RC aircraft, depending on their size and design

Poor range good for me

Did a range test to 80 ft and completely lost signal. Ended up using an older receiver and the issue was gone. That's my review.

Pros
  • Easy to setup with forward programming and internal antenna so easy to mount.
Cons
  • Some users have reported issues with the reliability of the Safe Receiver feature, causing crashes or other accidents
