🔧 Optimized SRAM Apex Brake Caliper Set Review

Was looking for a cheap pair of brake calipers for my road bike. This is compliant. Quality finishes and decent stopping power.

Best value for upgrading road bikes, especially older ones. I have a second set for another bike and they always work great and are easy to set up.

Works well, looks good and is great value for money. However, one of the pads on the brake shoe tore as soon as it was installed. So it was a little annoying to be replaced with a brand new item.

The fit and finish is great and these calipers do a really great job of emergency braking, especially when paired with SRAM brake levers. The pads are made by SwissStop for SRAM. For the price you can't go wrong with this caliper set. I have a late 80's Fuji Ace road bike that had pretty bad diaper brakes. The front ones kept giving me problems and I was about to take them to the shop when I realized I couldn't just buy new brakes for much more. In addition, the double loop design is much easier to align. I just swapped the calipers and hooked them up to the stock arms. I had to make a few modifications to get it working on my bike which no doubt voided the warranty on my bike and brakes but what a a difference in braking performance! I already had my wheels fixed with factory brakes which improved things but the fitment made a huge difference compared to the factory brakes. I had to make two modifications: 1. I use them with Alex RPD15 rims, they are finished (very small grooves with a deeper groove in the middle of the braking surface). I had no luck. This is my third set of calipers with these rims and they don't perform any better or worse than the others. Someone mentioned that they use Swissstops. Can't test, but they don't work very well. I can unbolt the handlebars (using the Tektro handlebar arms on the megaphone rig) and secure the arm, but I can't even come close to lifting the rear wheel.
