I suspect the original part sheared off because BB grease got onto the threads during installation and even though I didn't over tighten the bolt tension turned out to be the same in the end out his powers. It's a great replacement for him.

Got me back on the road. This is aluminum, and he twisted the normal one, and the head broke off! I read somewhere that this is a problem with the SRAM crank bolts. I tightened it less than half as recommended and it's good and comfortable. There were no problems with spinning. Drive >100 miles a week and it's been solid.
