Great for do-it-yourself dog guards

I used these to make dog guards to keep our golden retriever out of parts of the house where they shouldn't be but easy for humans to walk through . They work great, like the old saloon doors in westerns. It's easy to get through, but our animals stay away from our bedrooms and bathrooms. It requires a bit of knowledge on how to install them, but there are good YouTube videos on how to do it.

Pros
  • Easy to install and adjust spring tension
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Too light for most doors.

I bought these to use on a lightweight saloon door I was building for a barn, but the doors sagged after installation. After some research on the internet I found that adding a second loop just below the top one usually solves this problem so I ordered a second set. I installed additional hinges but the result was the same. One more thing, the screws that came with the hinges are of very poor quality. I broke two of them after drilling the pilot holes. I ended up buying screws that worked fine.

Pros
  • High quality stainless steel, compact, durable, exquisite workmanship
Cons
  • Something different

No, do not buy hinges Hinges

So I bought these to use on some of the saloon doors my wife wants to install in our pantry. Made some custom saloon doors for the entrance along with a custom door jamb to accommodate those hinges. Now install everything and they seem to be working as intended until I open the doors. They don't swing back like they should, all the gaps are clear for the saloon door to swing back, but they don't. Remove the hinges and inspect - well, they're held together with 10/24, all threads, some clamps…

Pros
  • Strong springs ensure the desired closing speed for various swing doors.
Cons
  • Very expensive
