Standard Horizon HX210 Handheld Radio Review

Typographical error on page 6 of the manual leads to frustration when setting the automatic noise reduction. I'm still waiting for a grant from S&H to find the reason for the bad reviews on a great product. Send money to a charity in your area. DB

A good radio with long battery life. (2 to 3 days if you turn it off when not in use) I bought it for sea work. The built-in light can be turned on manually or with water. I also like the variable power options. I had to buy a remote microphone. go with him

Just got this and played with it last night. Close to a major river and about 15 miles from the coast. Handled river and coast guard traffic as well as light sea traffic with ease. The guide is not bad but also used to cb. I can also use the weather and VHF channels during a hurricane.

Excellent for its price. It appears to be built of tuff, with qualities that only the best can find. I haven't tested receiving/transmitting on the water yet, but my hopes and expectations are high. The only thing that caught my eye was the radio's "footprint". muscular for my medium sized arm. I definitely recommend it!

I like it but not sure if it works. I mean I can hear FM traffic, I can hear radio but I don't get an answer on any Chanel channel. Although it was just my home, I had the same experience in the Florida Keys, less than 100 yards from shore. If the radio from this nearby beach in the Florida Keys can't check the radio or call a marine tugboat or coast guard, I'm not sure it can everywhere.

This device has never been dropped, submerged in water, exposed to extreme temperatures or other physical stress. It suddenly stopped charging in the middle of our 3 week trip. I checked the charging cradle with a multimeter and it shows a stable voltage of 13.4V, so the problem is clearly with the unit itself. It was very annoying that in the middle of our trip, a portable VHF suddenly stopped working. I do not recommend this product. Buy something reliable.

Please read the reviews and do not buy this radio. After less than a week of use, the screen is locked and I can't use any of the buttons, receive or transmit, or turn off the radio to reset it - the radio is now effectively useless. It seems to be a software issue, maybe there is a bad batch of these radios, or maybe they are all inherently buggy.
