📐 Starrett Precision Square 13MC Review

As expected, clearly excellent quality. I immediately checked out some of my other squares and suffice it to say they are now only used for 2X4 marks. good balance tool for life. Buy one, cry once and enjoy the best forever.

Tool quality is what you would expect from Starrett with a qualification. I find it difficult to read diplomas. I used to buy a 150mm combo angle with a glossier finish. This is easy to read.

The accuracy of this square is displayed as a product. I bought this square to replace a broken cheaper version, the decision to spend the extra money justified itself. The base is larger than the last square which makes it a bit unbalanced when used on the edge of a wooden board. The edge of the ruler also had a burr that had to be removed for easier use. Two very small points for being a very good engineer square. The locking mechanism is nice and doesn't slip.

I think 3 1/2 stars because I expected a little better fit and finish - this tool doesn't compare to the 20 year old Starrett -Quality . . However, head and shoulders above the cheaper brands. The lock is very positive and the etching seems to last a long time. This is their metric version and I was surprised at how Starrett drew the 2/3mm and 7/8mm marks higher than the individual millimeter marks but not as high as the 5mm mark. Maybe naivety on my part: maybe that's the industry standard…
