Description of Starrett 166C Insulated Octagonal Handle

NoN-ROLLING OCTAGON SHAPE: The Starrett 166C Pin Vise has an Octagon-shaped handle that prevents the tool from rolling when it’s set down. HOLDS UP TO 3.2 MM: This model pin vise securely holds workpieces sized between 0.050" - 0.125" (1.3mm - 3.2mm), including small stock, taps, drills, reamers, scribers, wire, small files, and other tools. SHOCK PROTECTION: This pin vise features an insulated PVC handle, which protects the user from electric shocks. SMALLER BODY FOR FASTER WORK: The body diameter is narrower than the chuck to enable fast opening and closing of the chuck and faster rotation when working on small workpieces. TAPERED COLLET: Its tapered collet provides maximum clamping surface. Measurements are 2-5/32" handle length and 3-55/64" overall length with chuck closed.

Well made product!

This vise shows signs of precision workmanship throughout. It feels premium, unlike the cheap ones that come with small drill bits. The clamping screw has a progressive look and does not wobble on the counter thread. The collet gently expands and contracts. The milled knurling is deep and even. The plastic handle is comfortable and there is a through hole so you can clamp a long drill or rod. LS Starrett - Athol, Massachusetts

Pros
  • SHOCK PROTECTION: This vise features an insulated PVC handle to protect the user from electric shock.
Cons
  • A newer model could have been selected

I have had many stud vices over the decades. They all work, but no matter what brand they are, they all tend to be cheap hobby tools. As the name "Starrett" suggests, this one is different. The cartridge is accurate, the bits really turn, easy to turn, load and unload. The handle fits comfortably in your hand (unlike all those rotary, ball or other stud type vises that scrape, scrape, stick, etc.). The chuck is easy to tighten to keep the bits from slipping off. By the way, yes, he has ammo. No

Pros
  • SMALLER BODY FOR FAST WORKING: The body diameter is smaller than the diameter of the chuck, which allows for quick opening and closing of the chuck and faster rotation when working with small workpieces.
Cons
  • No automatic

Better than average, missing one key feature in my opinion

I've never been disappointed with a Starrett tool and this one is no exception. It works quite well and I find it easy to use. I use it to hand drill small diameter holes for plastic screw threads. In this capacity he works well. I bet this works well for my other hobbies too, like model cars. The only thing I wish for, and the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars, is the free-spinning knob on the end. Tool. Something that puts pressure on the palm and allows you to use the tool with more…

Pros
  • HOLDS UP TO 3.2MM: This pin vise model securely holds work pieces from .050" to .125" (1.3-3.2mm) including small work pieces, taps, Drills, reamers, markers, etc. Wire, small files and other tools.
Cons
  • Hardware
