Description of Starrett 248A Extended Overall Diameter

Drive pin punch with 8" overall length and 1/8" pin diameter pushes pins and rivets into or out of a workpiece. Extra-long 3-1/2" pin length provides greater reach in recessed areas than standard length, making it suitable for machine shop and motor service work. Hardened and tempered steel provides wear resistance and strength. Round shank is knurled for grip

Perfect for my needs

Love how long they are! Good feel at the end of the handle and high-quality steel. Best I've seen and way cheaper than the ones sold by the guy in the van who comes to our shop every week! You won't regret buying them.

Broke immediately from hits

Received last night, bent and then broken after being hit with a light hammer. Bought specifically for a deep set pin that my current shots couldn't reach. I've had my HarborFreight shocks for 5 years with no problems and they're $15 for every 6. They're cheap Revain junk.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Has defects

Good quality heavy duty tool suitable for hand tools

I used this to remove pins on my 4 piston Brembo brakes for my Dodge Charger Scat Pack. It worked great to find them again but unfortunately it's too long to be able to slide them. I'm glad I added it to my toolbox. It is very heavy and fits perfectly in the hand.

Pros
  • Hands free operation
Cons
  • Almost never

Buy once, cry for beats once

They're expensive compared to what you can buy at your local import tool store, yes. Will they function perfectly and survive the rest of your natural life? Replacing the infamous double shift pin on my Subaru became a breeze. Since then I've been using them extensively and they don't disappoint.

Well worn for hits

I work for a manufacturing company and I had to remove the 3/16"2" long pin holding the gear to the shaft. Using a 3 pound steel hand sledge hammer, the rock drill was smashed. After a few curses, I was able to knock out the unruly pin. The puncher had light implements on it, but it did what it was supposed to do. Bought 2 but not sure if I need them. Great hit.

Perfect length for differential work

I used this little bad boy to knock out a cross pin in my Dana 30 so I could install my Aussie lock. Excellent wear resistance and strength. Ideal length. Advice. Use another tool to knock out the cross pin first and if it fails use this punch to knock it out. This way you keep your stamp intact and prevent the tip from overgrowing. Although I think this blow could withstand.
