StarTech Com 10Gbps Dual Bay Dock SATA Review

This is my third StarTech hard drive docking station. The other two still work great, but I wanted one with the latest transfer speeds. All of them are used on different computers. I have never had any problems with these devices. A few years ago I had an issue with a StarTech unit and the tech support was great. But the problem turned out to be my fault, not the device. They helped me to solve the problem and I was very happy with their support.

I found it very useful for merging drives. Being able to power much larger drives is very useful. I was able to merge five drives on a new NAS. I also reused three of those drives, saving enough money to cover the cost of the docking station. I have a laptop that literally caught fire. I thought the disc was burned. Turns out I was able to recover the files after disassembling what was left of the laptop. Without the dock I'm not sure I could recover the files

The SDOCK4U33 is a great docking station in its own right. I've seen several questions about using Seagate's new 8TB hard drives. Using a factory 6.5 amp power supply, I found I could run three 8TB archived Seagates (ST8000AS0003) at the same time, but not four at the same time. Since these heavy drives draw 2 amps to spin up, I needed a power supply of at least 8 amps. This is our second StarTech product. They all work great. USB 3.1 and 3.0 connections are very stable. StarTech's quality over the past 4 years has built our confidence in their solutions, which is why we plan to continue purchasing their products. Our other product from StarTech was a USB 3.0 Dual External Hard Drive Enclosure, which also works very well. This is the most unreliable USB dock I have ever used. I have emailed tech support and returned and we have been unable to come to any conclusion as to what is wrong with her. When I have two drives and need to transfer data or run a clone, 3 times out of 4 times the computer randomly disconnects, causing every application I'm running to crash.
