Works great in hard drive cases

Bought to add a Samsung 960 EVO to my aging PC. My phone is the GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 which I bought in 2012. I put the SSD in the adapter and connected it to a free PCIe x4 slot. Windows 10 recognized the drive immediately. I formatted it and moved my Steam library there. Games like DayZ and Arma 3, which take a lot of disk usage, have been greatly improved without any other hardware changes. The loading time of the game is very fast. I haven't done a performance test yet. Will update if/when

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Requires outlet

The computer didn't recognize the adapter

I've spent hours getting this adapter to work. I'm using the latest version of Windows 10 and have a Samsung 970 Evo installed in the adapter. The Samsung driver cannot find the card. Windows does not see the card. Bios does not see the card. The instructions and the StarTech website did not help. After a long search on the internet I came to the conclusion that it is necessary to update the bios on my motherboard. After updating the bios, the adapter worked. I can now boot directly from disk…

Great for NVMe storage, good for ESXi home labs

One of these was put on my home lab server running ESXi 6.5. Intel P4500 NVMe SSD with Intel U.2 M.2 cable included. ESXi recognized the SSD immediately and now the IOPS are off the charts. Running virtual machines here will be amazing considering how high the IOPS are. This device does NOT require a PCIe fanout. Just insert a card and you're done. This card is currently in the 3.0 x16 slot because the card will not fit in the x8 slot due to the Intel U.2 M.2 cable getting in the way. I'm…

Pros
  • Large selection
Cons
  • Everything is fine

Please note that the adapter names "Dual" and "Single" are reversed, but the illustrations are correct. I reported this inconsistency to Revain and they were quick to do nothing to fix it. Nonetheless, the map is great. It allows you to add an NVME SSD to a computer that only has one PCIe slot. I've used three copies of the "single" version of the card and they all worked great. According to the description, it is backwards compatible with PCIe 2.0, and it is. I had another cheaper card that…

Works great in hard drive cases

Bought two of these to use in a new workstation. My motherboard doesn't support fanout so I needed one with a PCIe switch. Works great, just two things you need to know: 1. For some reason, my BIOS setup program keeps saying that the two slots I installed these cards in are free. But when the OS boots up (CentOS Linux 8 or Windows 10), it sees the NVMe devices on those cards, and the PCIe switches on each card work fine. You should keep this in mind - it can prevent you from booting the…

Ideal for upgrading older systems with M.2 SSDs

Hooked up a Samsung 960 EVO, hooked it up to my old 2nd gen Sandy Bridge i7 board and installed the Windows 7 drivers. Everything worked fine and I got the new partition up and running in minutes. Could be a bit cheaper and maybe include a half height mount. NOTES FOR WINDOWS 7: Anyone complaining that they can't find Windows 7 drivers for this card should understand that this card DOES NOT NEED DRIVERS. The card is a dumb adapter that allows you to plug a PCI Express attached NVMe m.2 drive…
