It works, but maybe not for every application.

I ordered this card to replace a failed serial card in an industrial control PC. At first I couldn't get it to work and was willing to throw it away and order from another manufacturer, but I decided to check the manufacturer's website to see if there was any support that could help. One day I found an updated driver on their website, downloaded and installed it, after that the card worked, so the driver disk that came with it was no good. The only problem I couldn't find a solution that wouldโ€ฆ

Can NOT be compatible with PCI-3 and above!

The card was not working on my Gigabyte X399 Designare Threadripper motherboard. It is PCIe-3 however, if you read Startech website this serial card is ONLY compatible with PCIe-1a. Gigabyte indicated somewhere (I can't remember where) that they would no longer support the PCIe-1 format for one reason or another, I don't remember. -16) I installed it in an older gigabyte system with a PCIe-2, X-16 slot. This worked great and I transferred data for about 6 hours with no problems. This isโ€ฆ

Windows 7/64 driver needs to be loaded

As Gary Yang pointed out, the Windows 7/64 driver doesn't work on the hard drive. When I clicked the "Install" button in the installer app, it printed a message saying the process was canceled. To get a working installer for Windows 7/64, download it from www[dot]startech[dot]com. Click the Downloads tab, then enter the product code PCI2S550. Select this product and you will receive three files to download. The two PDFs have the same name, which was a StarTech oversight. Rename the data sheetโ€ฆ

Came defective - drivers were not loaded

I bought this card to replace exactly the same model - the contact of the DB9 connector is broken (they are thin on the 2nd port). The new card is not compatible with any driver (I downloaded the latest drivers after the CD failed). This usually means that the PCI configuration space on the card is corrupted, making it impossible to map the card to the driver's INF file (vendor ID or device ID). I spent 2 hours chatting with tech support - helpful and easy to communicate with, but after 2 hours

Five Stars for StarTech

I have a Dell XPS with Windows 7 Ultimate. Serial ports are still used on some older devices (and some new ones). A device I bought that requires a serial connection to communicate with my computer. I had an open PCI slot so it made sense to use that. Searched for Revain almost as well as Google, found Startech PCI2S550_PL, read the test report, got started and ordered. I read the instructions, put it in a free slot, but couldn't load the driver. There is nothing unusual about Win 7. I went toโ€ฆ
