Unreliable, shuts down

There are two problems with them (I have 3 of them): a. The device turns off for 10 hours as if someone pressed the power button. This is different from spinning the disc, it turns off the blue light. That renders the device useless for anything but hours of copying or sobbing. The device sometimes has problems with the USB connection. Most non-Apple and non-Samsung devices have these issues, as do Via chips. This is normal for mice and network devices, but fatal for storage. If you have aโ€ฆ

The enclosures look better than the docking station

I recently pulled an old StarTech (USB 3.0) drive enclosure from storage to fit a new Seagate 7200 RPM 1TB (64MB) hard drive. cache). My next step was to use a Seagate hard drive in a 6 month old Pluggable docking station. I created a Windows disk image and timed the process. Next; I installed Seagate in an old StarTech case and pictured the same drive. The time difference was amazing. Pluggable performance was pathetic. My next step was to ditch the pluggable dock and buy this new StarTechโ€ฆ

Disabled when using

Attempting to use it to create a disc image will permanently disconnect after about 10 minutes of operation. Works great as long as you don't need it. I've had it for over a year now. They've always done it that way. I'm only writing a review now because I have to buy another one because this little used dock isn't doing its job in life.

Works best via USB in computers and accessories

Firstly, this is a working dock, but there is an issue with the included power adapter that doesn't really put out 24w, or devices need more than 24w to work. I've had issues with this and other StarTech docks where with prolonged use they will eventually try to draw too much current and shut down - a workaround is to use a 2.5A or 3A 12V power supply to use (I took 12V 3A from an unused one). external hard drive enclosure). In any case, the USB to SATA bridge they use seems to be supportedโ€ฆ

High ๐Ÿ˜ŽโœŒ๐Ÿป on HDD Enclosures

This is so cool. I used this with migration assistant. I think it's much faster if you're copying from SSD to SSD, which I did, but with a USB-C cable connected to a 2017 27-inch iMac, it did over 300GB in 30 minutes copied. I tested it on a laptop hard drive and a 3.5" drive from an old Mac Pro.

Pros
  • Excellent Overall Performance
Cons
  • For Seniors

Hard Drive Dock Works

I use this hard drive dock with a 1TB hard drive that I back up my entire system and data to once a week. The drive is normally disabled. When I turn it on to back up drives and rescan, it runs with no issues and works exactly as expected. I like the fact that it not only offers USB access but also SATA which I use.
