NO LIFE JACKET! Best security and buoyancy

This is NOT a life jacket. This is a floating device. Do not buy this as a lifeline for a small child who cannot roll onto their back or have their face submerged upside down in the water. We bought it by mistake and the inside label says 'Floating Device'. It wasn't in the description so I just wanted buyers to know.

Pros
  • Durable nylon construction
Cons
  • Contact seller

Doesn't hold head up

Unfortunately I've found that our little one keeps rolling on her tummy when wearing this lifesaver. Instead of staying afloat, she basically did the opposite. It is reported to be "Coast Guard Approved" so I'm not sure what to do with it. On the other hand, it was fairly easy to grab the strap at the top to hold the head, but this design feels misguided when applied to real babies in real life.

Pros
  • Great for introducing little swimmers to the water
Cons
  • Has problems

It works! boating and sailing

We bought this for a six month old to take to the lake. We were out canoeing when suddenly a storm came up with such strong winds that we capsized. I think the best praise a life jacket can get is that it worked in testing. Of course there was a lot of crying, but the child floated headfirst over water. The hold above came in handy when towed into another boat. I am very thankful that he wore it!

Pros
  • Leg strap and handle for extra security
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

Dip my son's face in the water!

I pre-purchased this before going to the river and luckily tested it out in a friends pool. Thank god I did! We put my 16 month old son in it and the vest kept turning him over and submerging his face in the water. He was floating on his back just a few seconds after we set him in the starting position. I've waited too long to return and today was the deadline. My loss but he will NEVER wear it.

Pros
  • Designed for babies under 30lbs
Cons
  • Nothing

Not for swimming but for backstroke

I bought this for a one year old pool. It's not very comfortable because she can't swim in it. It's more of a float on your back like a life jacket. I put her in the pool with him and it works. She can swim on her back. She doesn't look like she's having fun, but she's not angry either. So I'm assuming she's fine since she's very vocal about what she doesn't like. If you're trying to buy this for swimming, don't. On the other hand, it is ideal for swimming and boating.

Pros
  • US Coast Guard Approved Infant Life Jacket
Cons
  • Durable

US Coast Guard stamp appears to be legal (unlike other photos)

I've seen photos here that make me nervous about their legitimacy but we all seem regular print inside to have. These guys work well for our 6 month old baby. Of course, you can never leave your baby in the water unattended, so all these comments about your baby could backfire. Give me a break! If your child was old enough to be prone, you would use this arm and front. I'm glad I ignored some of the reviews and went for it anyway. At the moment this would be perfect for the local indoor poolโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Secure 1 inch tape
Cons
  • Something else

Good life jacket at a great price

A lot of the bad reviews I read said this was either not a legitimate Stearns product or not US Coast Guard approved . Don't let your child swim on their back. I think either these people somehow didn't get the correct item and probably should have returned it, or they just didn't read the documentation that came with the vest. Type II Personal Buoyancy Device. There is a 16 page booklet which contains essential information including boarding, testing, swimming lessons for your child, the factโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Waist belt and handle for extra security
Cons
  • Good but not great
