Ideal for beginners

For beginners and artists who need something inexpensive to practice on, this is a great paper. It fizzes a little when saturated, is inexpensive and easy to carry in your backpack when traveling. If you're looking for paper for finished work or for displaying artwork, this probably isn't what you need - you'll need to buy paper up to 300#.

Pros
  • Finally bought
Cons
  • Empty

Acquired for watercolors (Chinese painting). paper .

. Bought for watercolor (Chinese painting). The paper is very high quality and thick, but it can only absorb water, so you need to use dry brushes. So in the end all my images look dry and rough and the gradients are missing. I learned my lesson that this is not suitable for Chinese watercolor painting.

Pros
  • Strathmore Watercolor Paper 9"X12"
Cons
  • You could choose a newer model

Great for practice or just for fun!

Very good medium quality watercolor paper. I found it clean and bright, not matt and slightly colorless like cheap watercolor paper. Holds color well, easy to use! Tip: Cover the edges with masking tape before painting. Leave the painting glued until it dries, then carefully remove the tape. This gives you a flat image that is not distorted by water.

Pros
  • Notebook specifications: Wire bound sheets are actual size when removed from wire binding
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled

Strathmore makes great paper

I've read snide comments about Strathmore being more of a student newspaper, but unless you mean serious students I'm not sure that's even a fair description is. I'm a semi-serious artist, although I've only recently started getting more involved with watercolor. I think this paper is wonderful. It is 140# and has wonderful texture on both sides. You can also just erase the entire page and start over if you wish, even with a dry painting. I don't have any local art supplies so I rely solely on…

Pros
  • Made in the USA
Cons
  • Not as thick as others
