Used on my wife's 2004 Subaru Outback when the original bushing became worn and fell off. Got in with a bit of fiddling (mostly figuring out which hole to put it in) and problem solved.

Rubber piece. It smells bad and tastes worse and no matter how much salt, pepper or oil (and oil makes everything tasty) I apply it (trust me. Wonder how I know). I would not recommend being eaten at all. So yes, that keeps the support bar in the right place in Subie! The support bar is very necessary in the car and used properly as it keeps the front hood in a safe position so it doesn't fall off and hit you on the head. Mine already hit me in the head.
