Not soft at all.

I opened a large package and sharpened two knives. These stones are not worn at all. I bought these after much research and I'm glad I did! I feel like I can now start sharpening my Japanese steel on them (which is why I bought them) as they are also easy to master. I'll probably give away my electric sharpener now.

Pros
  • Heavy Duty
Cons
  • Damaged

Excellent "universal " sharpening stone.

The stone is flat and fairly easy to use. Comes with a well-designed stand with rubber feet that holds the stone while sharpening. It also comes with what I think is a leveling stone to level the whetstone back up if needed. I find 1000 and 3000 grit ideal for general touch up kitchen knives followed by a fairly fine finish. As this is my first water stone I find it quite comfortable and clean compared to stones that require oil. I use it freehand and find its length and width quite comfortable

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • Out of fashion

Real discount on whetstones

I have always had quality knives and have used stones to sharpen them for years. For the past few years I've been lazy and bought one of those cheap sharpeners that brag that a few quick pulls will bring your knives back to their factory edge. Needless to say it didn't work and all my knives became dull. I watched a few videos on the best stones and sharpening methods and first bought a 400/1200 grit diamond sharpening stone based on a guy's recommendation that it was the best and fastest way…

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
