The block works with UNO, NANO, MEGA, etc. Many examples, works great

After connecting to Arduino UNO, MEGA. SDA on A4 and SCL on A5 then +5 and Gnd, turned on the device and got a blue screen, no icons. This seemed to be a problem. After adjusting the variable LCD contrast resistance below, the characters became clear. Both of my boards have been set up to blur the display. Download the library from the "Sketch" menu, then "Include Library", add the zip file "LiquidCrystal_I2C_LIB.zip". Test the sample code using File, Examples, LiquidCrystalI2C. Looks very…

Limited documentation when using another microcontroller

If you don't use an Arduino or Raspberry Pi, using it is a problem. All documentation and drivers assume that you will use one of them. I've been using microcontrollers for 40 years so I've managed to figure it out, with the MSP430 for example a beginner is unlikely to succeed. If you want to use it boneless, here are some tips. The I2C is converted to an 8-bit parallel port on a smaller board (which is soldered to the LCD board). The 8 parallel bits starting with MSB are as follows: D7, D6…

  • Excellent design

I bought SunFounder IIC I2C TWI Serial 2004 20x4.

Earlier in 2017 I bought a SunFounder IIC I2C TWI Serial 2004 20x4 LCD Module Shield for Arduino Uno Mega2560. The I2C interface promised a much cleaner interface than the standard interface. For a long time I could not find a driver and code example to control it. I finally found this code that initializes the board. It works with version 1.1.2 of Frank de Brabander's LiquidCrystal_I2C library included in version 1.8.2 of the Arduino IDE#include <Wire.h>#include…

Pros
  • Good looking
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Arrived, installed the Liquidcrystal_I2C library, ran the sample code. Heroes are not visible, but they are. There's just no backlight. I've played with it but to no avail. But wait. Then I noticed two jumpers on the back of the unit, but no documentation. Just in case, I connected the two pins together and voila! backlight. I'm not sure why there is no documentation for these pins, but I wanted to change my rating from 1 star (no backlight) to 5 stars (works great). Bottom line: when you get…

Easy to plug in, easy to get started

After racking my brains over a display that was $4 cheaper, I swapped it out for one of these. I used the library and some demo code from the SunFounder website. When I first turned everything on I had the same crap as my previous display, but then it flashed and I saw Hello World! I had the display part of my code and it worked in no time and my display doesn't show the weird nested addressing that some others have reported. I hooked it up with four wires and no extra resistors and it works…

The backlight jumper may not work!

This display works well with the i2c interface connected to the Arduino. However, I did find that the 2 backlight enable pins on the interface board were shorted even with no jumper installed. This made it impossible to adjust the backlight brightness, which was too bright for my application. With great difficulty I was able to separate the interface board from the 1602 display board, allowing access to the underside of the interface board where I was able to confirm that there was indeed a…

Works great as a standalone display

After watching several videos online on how to program a character LCD with only 4-8 switches and one button, I decided to give it a try and ordered this one first . step to achieve this goal. I then added some project boxes, switches and potentiometers to the cart along with this 16x2 display and after waiting a week for my parts to arrive, after the initial setup, starting with the initialization of the display, everything worked as expected get going. to enter ASCII characters in binary…

Great little display, but there are a few things to be aware of.

Some things you should know about this LCD. The figures show the I2C interface board detached from the display. It doesn't come off. This forces you to use the LiquidCrystal_IC2.h and Wire.h libraries when used with an Arduino Uno/Mega/Nano. If your project uses the LiquidCrystal.h library and accesses LCD pins directly (ie: not I2C or TWI), choose a display that does not have an I2C interface. The picture shows the individual pins that are normally connected to the LCD interfaces (top edge of…

Pros
  • Special Offer
Cons
  • Available in black only

Working properly; except that the backlight cannot be manually controlled as the spec says. With sweater. Unless you have a need or interest in dimming the backlight with resistors or PWM (pulse width modulation), the LCD works fine. Purchased December 2020. There have been different versions over the years using the same list. . The version I received only allows the LED backlight to be controlled via software and only OFF or ON. Without dimming. The description for the board states that the…
